What age do you think kids should start dating?

Reader Question – A lot of kids I know that are my age dating , and I am in 7th grade, even some of my friends. One friend is in sort of an off and on thing, but to me, it seems sort of young to start dating. What do you think?

17.

I think many young teens are trying to seem “cool” to their friends, but they don’t realize dating, has more than just being cool.

I would say around 15/16

It depends on how mature they are.

I’m in 8th grade. It starts around our age. I think its a good age to start. Were not totally in love, but it makes you feel fit in. It’s weird.

If they’re smart about it, they’ll never start dating.

Christina  on November 19th, 2009

13 but not a seirous relationship until ur about 15 or 16

P.L  on November 19th, 2009

My friend and I agree. There is no way you can be mature enough to really love that person, at that age.

Yousif S  on November 19th, 2009

hahah i Think Kids shouldn’t date because they are one day gonna realize that no one ever ment anything and none of the dating for kids is serious or needed. So Should be around like 18 or in college when they should start dating because thats when they are actually looking for a wife or a husband

Angel_On_F!re  on November 19th, 2009

I understand what you mean completely. We have years to date. Why do we have to start right now?! I guess most kids, including me, get curious and that’s why they start dating so early. Even though they may not be ready, they just want to have fun and try having a boyfriend or girlfriend. Most kids these days do start dating early, but it really is a personal thing on whether someone is ready to date or not.

myway  on November 19th, 2009

I started dating someone in grade 6 and we lasted until grade 8. We still talk sometimes and we’re always interested to see each other (just to a movie or lunch). Obviously at that age you’re not serious, everyone matures differently, I would say in your later years of high school.

Callahan  on November 19th, 2009

16. The kid(s) may have a job and some money and a car to go out and actually do something. 13 year old kids dating? LOL. The peer pressure must be horrible. I’m glad I’m not a teenager!

Nez  on November 19th, 2009

i would say 14 1/2 to 15 because usually if u start dating so you u believe your in love and lose your virginity faster and thats not a good thing,

chick magnet  on November 19th, 2009

I think 12/13 because thats when i got really interested in girls

Made in Canada '87!  on November 19th, 2009

I think 16 because you get to start driving then so if you can drive you can date.

The problem with kids starting to date so young is that they think they’re little adults when they’re not and end up having sex far too young which is not okay.

Julie  on November 19th, 2009

it could be anywhere 12+ depending on the guy/girl’s additude that’s what i think

milton b  on November 19th, 2009

If by dating you mean serious boyfriend-girlfriend stuff then I say twenty-five. If you mean going out for fun then it will depend on how mature the kid is.

Blue Streak  on November 20th, 2009

When they can afford a home and theres so much more that goes with it.

Plus, if someone is going to date then that person should be the one that their going to spend the rest of their life with. If not then don’t date the person.

♥ Mz Queen Bee ♥  on November 20th, 2009

i say 17 cause that is when i started dating but i would not recommend it because i had no idea what the heck i was doing. it’s best to wait until you’re older.

Mercy C  on November 20th, 2009

What is your definition of dating? At your age it’s normal to develop crushes on others and even to take the next step and go on “dates.” Definition of dates being, going to movies alone or in a group of friends. Some may even give each other the title of girlfriend or boyfriend and perhaps eat lunch together at school and show public displays of affection such as hand holding, hugging, kissing and etc. On the more innocent end of the spectrum, playful flirting is normal.

Personally, I think 7th grade is a bit young to start the physical interaction. However, 7th grade is not too young to realize you have crushes and maybe pursuing a closer friendship with the object of your affection.

By highschool some kids are mature enough to handle a real, meaningful relationship. Other kids just like the idea of having a bf or gf. Other kids seem to find affirmation and self-worth by being in a relationship and having someone ‘like/love’ them. Lots of people think that just because you like someone and they like you back, that’s a solid reason to start ‘dating’ or go into a serious relationship.

Unfortunately there is no hard and fast rule on the correct age to start dating. Hopefully you will be mature enough to wait and only go into a relationship for the good reason with a good person who is not only cute and smart, but kind and loving as well.

Someone H  on November 20th, 2009

Sooner the better. If you can date with maturity, start at any age you are comfortable with.

MirandaMonster :]  on November 20th, 2009

12 or 13.

I think it is not the matter about the age.It is about when you can take responsibility of each other or it it the age when you can perform your promise
