Thats why there is a melody over the chords. Its just as creative to write a vocal melody over chords as it is to write a riff. Anyway, Nickelback have a shit loada songs that are mostly riffs. Your only hearing the guitars. Theres shit loads of extra things going on, especially in their other songs. Loadsa vocal harmonies, loads of layers and with their new drummer some really cool things going on there. Alot of creativity you just dont want to hear. Its not just a 5 min thing.

well everything is wrong with chords, because they are the easiest thing you can play on a guitar. What made the greats like led zeppelin, cream, and jimi hendrix so great was that they were doing things that had never been done before, that blew peoples minds. Nickelback is just doing what every pop rock band is doing, yet they are considered among the best rock groups of today. I dont understand why everyone is happy with simple songs that probably took little time to make. so im not a bitch
